Lotus Elise Show Winning Wide Body

Customer Robert wanted to do a streetable showcar using his Elise as the beginning platform. The project turned into a major redo of Robert’s car which included a custom fabricated wide body by Mulholland Motorsports, custom paint scheme, custom interior and addition of a turbo which makes this vehicle not only very aggressive looking, but fast as a rocket too!

The beginning fabrication of the widebody:

Porsche 996 Koni Challenge Racecar Custom Paint

Recently at Mulholland Motorsports we revived a well seasoned and beaten up Porsche 996 Koni Challenge Racecar. An ex GMG Sonofros car from what we were told, the customer had bought the car as it was legally streetable and he wanted a safe car to play with on Mulholland. Usually such a perfect custom paint job is not the best for a track race car, but as this one would be living on the streets mainly, we concocted a custom one off silver powder paint job for it.

As you can see, once the GMG wrap was removed, the 996 looked a bit haggard, with a paint scheme we nicknamed the McDonalds hooptie.

The car was pretty spent cosmetically, so the roof was replaced, bumpers reconditioned and all those track dings caused by some hard racing pounded out and the car was made perfectly smooth again.

Lotus Exige Custom Paint

Customer Jaimie wanted a one off custom three stage paint job on his Lotus Exige. Each custom paint job at Mulholland Motorsports begins with multiple test panels in order for the client to see what the actual custom paint will end up looking like on their vehicle. It is during this process that paint modifications can be discussed and tweaked. If you look closely at the picture below you will see three different shades of yellow in this test for the “ghost stripe” that Jaimie wanted. In order to get the best possible results, all body panels must be removed so the new custom paint looks better than it came delivered from the factory with. Once the body panels are removed, the vehicle and the panels are painted individually in the heated downdraft spray booth. The down draft system is critical for keeping contamination out of the painting process. After the vehicle is painted, color sanded and buffed, the reassembly process begins. The Lotus waiting final reassembly with protective covering visible (red tape etc) Final assembly finished, all vehicles are then meticulously inspected before a final detailing and delivery to the customer.
